School Resource Officers Pose as Great Deterent

Updated: Thu 6:16 PM, Jan 17, 2013

While the government continues to talk about gun legislation, measures to keep kids safe in school have been taken years ago.

Two districts in our area use the advice and quick thinking of a school Resource Officer to deter future criminals.

However, it goes much deeper than just safety.

Chief of the Everest Metro Police Department, Wally Sparks told us, “Being able to address the issues and have an officer there to engage students and look at warning signs before. Then they can try to intervene.”

Each district while having a resource officer on duty, have not had any major incidents. Law enforcement says that’s because it deters criminals because of the armed presence.
