A Wausau school is working to make students ready to become future entrepreneurs. Newman Catholic Middle School 8th grade students were separated into small companies with the goal to create a product to amplify the sound of cell phones or music players.

Students were required to create three different prototypes, test them in the community, graph their progress, come up with a price, and even create a commercial advertising their final product. On Friday, students made mock sales pitches to the Newman Catholic High School students.

"We came up with something that was not only light-weight and recycleable, but it was easily portable," said 8th grader, Ashley Krasowski. "This really amplified the sound and we used plaster and acrylic to make this, but we still felt like it wasn't as big as we wanted it to be."

Her company's final product was actually a backpack unit called an iBox. She said the project was a good opportunity to figure out how to work in a group and make an affective sales pitch.

"We're really focusing on things that we'll use in our future as far as entrepreneur work and things that we'll focus on in our jobs someday, so we really got a glimps of what we could be doing as an occupation someday," said Krasowski.
