Asha Jain of Minocqua has some serious new bling! A gold medal.

The 8th grader was one of a three person US team to win the National Geographic World Championship in geography.

They beat out Canada and India in the final round of the competition in Russia.

The thirteen-year-old Asha is in the 8th grade at the MHLT Elementary School in Minocqua.

She was met with opens arms Thursday evening at the airport in Mosinee.

"It feels awesome. You're really excited to be home and then your parents and your whole family comes to greet you at the airport with a big sign. It's amazing," Asha told NewsChannel 7.

Among the family and friends welcoming Asha home was her grandpa who earlier in the day received his last chemotherapy treatment for cancer of the esophagus.

Last year she unable to compete after she was beat out by her brother Vansh who advanced to state geography bee and placed second.
