Enrollment Rises 2 Percent at UW-Stevens Point

Enrollment throughout colleges in the UW-System fell this year, however at UW-Stevens Point, two percent more students signed up for classes.

The director of admissions says though overall enrollment numbers are up, the university is actively recruiting throughout the state and country because there are fewer high school graduates.

"There are some pockets on the West Coast where there is more high school graduates and there's not necessarily an opportunity for them to go to a college in their state so those are some of the areas we'll be looking at," Terri Crumley said.

Along with more freshman, UWSP has more transfer students this year.

The college is also starting a freshman experience program to retain students. The program provides support for students who may be struggling.

"If we see that there are some issues we do some early intervention to try to make sure students are connecting with the right offices on campus," Crumley said.

UWSP is also becoming more diverse. This year's diversity enrollment includes more African Americans, Hispanic/Latinos and Multiracial students.
