Students at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Wausau are showing off their green thumbs!
Their school garden has been chosen to represent the entire state of Wisconsin as part of a national initiative to encourage healthier lifestyles.
Thanks to the farm to school grant, The Wausau School District is looking into ways to get more local grown foods into lunch rooms.
Students say they already notice a difference in the freshness and taste.
Science teacher, Renee Heinrich, says they enjoy themselves so much that sometimes her students don't even realize they're learning.
She encourages parents to also get involved, starting their own garden at home.
The Wausau School District will be hiring a nutritionist this summer to further expand the farm to school initiative.
