Marathon County Judge Patrick Brady has delayed the murder trial of Raul Ponce-Rocha, 23. The ruling was made in a motions hearing Friday morning.
Ponce-Rocha, of Wausau, is charged with killing D.C. Everest senior Breanna Schneller, 18. She was found dead in her Wausau apartment in May 2009.
Ponce-Rocha's defense attorney, Mike Moran, asked for the delay because they're waiting for the results of some DNA tests. The state sent in hair samples for analysis from the FBI. The hairs were found on Schneller's body, and other pieces of evidence. Final results won't be ready until the end of the month or May.
The original trial date was set for June. Because of scheduling conflicts and attorney schedules, the earliest trial date in Marathon County is January 3 -14, 2011.
Schneller's family was at the hearing today. At least one woman was seen crying when the ruling came down.
