MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin officials are proposing removing 16 birds, plants and other animals from the state's list of endangered or threatened species.

Officials say the proposed changes are the result of a comprehensive review of rare species in Wisconsin.

Some of the species proposed for removal responded well to protections and to efforts to increase their populations. Others were found to not be as rare as once thought or no longer occur in Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, the review found eight different species that are in jeopardy now or in the near future. Those species are proposed to be added to the list.

Among the species proposed to be removed from the list are the greater redhorse, a small fish; the barn owl, snowy egret, a dragonfly and two reptiles.
