Strawberry Season Delayed Due to Weather

Strawberry farmers are feeling the pressure because their season should have started weeks ago, but it's delayed because of the weather.

The owners of Merry's Berries in Antigo believe this year's cooler spring is postponing their season by at least a couple weeks.

Andy Merry says since his parents started growing berries back in 1981, weather has always been king.

"I don't think we've ever had a perfect season and we don't expect it to be. We work to try to make it perfect or as close to perfect as we can." said Merry.

Other area strawberry farms open this week or are opening soon, but all behind schedule.

Farmers say the delay will not affect the taste of berries when they are ready for harvesting.
