A proposed large dairy farm is drawing critizsm from neighbors.

Monday, a forum was held at the Adams County Community Center in Adams for resident to voice their opinions and concerns.

The proposed factory farm would be near Coloma and would hold 4,300 cows, with room to expand.

Many are concern what will happened to the water, air and quality of life. According to WEAU-TV, the Richfield Dairy operators say they'd hold the manure in pits and haul it to nearby fields.

It would cost $36 million to build and would employ 40 people. They promise to buy feed from local farmers. Milk Source, the company that would own the dairy, already milks some 30,000 cows around the state.

During an interview with WEAU-TV Paul Powalish, a concerned neighbor said “I know what's coming, there's no two ways about it. I was born on the farm, I was raised on a farm and I know what's coming.”

Co-Founder of Milk Source Jim Ostrom said “We're good neighbors. We're really good for the economy. We do a lot of business locally.”

The DNR will be reviewing the final permits this summer and says the smell is not a valid reason for rejecting the permits.
