Plans to build a large dairy farm south of Wisconsin Rapids have some residents up in arms. The 6,000 acre Wysocki Dairy and Produce Farm would be built in the Town of Saratoga. The farm's proposed location would limit the amount of land available for recreational use for things like hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.
People are also concerned about the impact methane gas and pesticides will have on their water supply.
Currently, officials are not saying what they think the effects will be, but they do think the public will be surprised at how clean that operation is run.
Jason Grueneberg, Land Records Coordinator for Wood County says, “It's not this big, bad, scary, factory farm that a lot of people may have pictured."
The Wyosocki's gave Saratogoa residents the opportunity to see what the proposed farm would be like when they gave tours of their Juneau County facility last Thursday. They say those who took the tour seemed to be impressed by what they saw.
In addition, the proposed farm could add up to 25 new jobs and stimulate the local economy. One thousand acres has already been sold for the project and we are told numerous transactions are pending.
