Wisconsin hunters may soon be able to set their sights on gray wolves.

The wolves have been taken off the Federal Endangered Species List and the population in Wisconsin is growing.

Now, a local state lawmaker is introducing a "Wolf Management Act" bill in the legislature.

Rep. Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford) would like the state to issue hunting permits for wolves.

"It's not going to be an all out hunting season and free-for-all. It will be much like bear hunting with permits issued. We need to bring the population down to the 350 level," said Suder.

He estimates there are between 1,000 and 2,500 gray wolves in Wisconsin. He says more than 30 attacks on livestock and pets have been reported over the past few years.

People in favor of protecting wolves are expected to oppose the bill.
