Cold Weather Delays Wisconsin Maple Syrup Season

Wisconsin syrup makers say the lingering cold is delaying collection of sap from maple trees.

HTR Media reports business owners in Two Rivers and Manitowoc trudged through cold and snow to tap trees last weekend.

It usually takes a few warm days to get sap flowing, and Wisconsin basked in the sun on Tuesday.

But the cold has returned, making it unlikely the sap will start flowing soon.

Maple syrup producers say it's the cold, not the snow, that affects their business so they'll be hauling five-gallon buckets out of the woods as soon as the temperatures warm up again.
