Antigo's Lukas Gets Another Shot at Kentucky Derby

Another "Run For the Roses" for Lukas
The 138th Kentucky Derby is this weekend.
Antigo native and hall of fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas has slipped his horse into this year's field of 20.
Optimizer was 21st on the list, just on the outside looking in. But another horse dropped out, giving Lukas the chance to enter Optimizer this weekend, a horse that's bred to go the derby's mile-and-a-quarter distance.
Lukas has won 13 Triple Crown races, including 4 Kentucky Derby's, but his last major win was the 2000 Belmont Stakes.
If Optimizer could pull it out, the 76-year young Lukas would be the oldest trainer to win the Derby.
