A 73-year-old Antigo man is contesting a traffic citation after being accused of backing into bystanders at an Antigo baseball game on June 25.
Police say the victims an 8-year-old boy, a 9-year-old boy, a 57-year-old man and 67-year-old woman were treated and released from the hospital. The 9-year-old was initially pinned under the vehicle.
During an interview with NewsChannel 7 last month, Police Chief Eric Roller said Charles Melzer had initially left his parking place, and then drove around the bleachers to pick up some lawn chairs. When he went to back up again, his foot slipped from the brake. His SUV accelerated quickly in reverse, pinning the spectators against a fence.
Chief Roller says it's a miracle they weren't hurt worse or killed.
