Touting State Tourism - Gov. Walker in Wausau

Summer is right around the corner and Gov. Scott Walker is hoping to keep our state's tourism booming.

On Friday, he made a stop at Wausau's Downtown Airport taking about the economic impact the 2011 tourism numbers had on the Badger State. He said the tourism economy grew by 7.6% in 2011.

But you may be wondering, "What does that mean for me and my family?" According to Gov. Walker, visitor generated $1.3 billion dollars in state and local revenue and $950 million federal taxes in 2011. That in turn saves Wisconsin Taxpayers nearly $565 per household.

The state is getting ready to launch a new $3 million summer advertising campaign that would attract our neighbors to Wisconsin. The focus will be on people in Illinois, Minnesota, and for the first time Iowa. The campaign is geared to show people that Wisconsin offers family friendly affordable fun.

Some Quick Statistics:

-Visitor spending totaled $10 billion, that then generated $16 billion in total business sales

-More than 95 million people visited Wisconsin

-Tourism supported 181,000 jobs and $4.4 billion in personal income
