The man suspected in the 1999 murder of a Wausau woman is facing additional charges Wednesday.
James Emerson is now charged with battery by a prisoner - a felony - stemming from a jail fight authorities say he got into with another inmate in April. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for June 19, a preliminary hearing for August 1 and a final pre-trial for September 24.
Emerson, 44, is accused of murder in the death of Rhonda Mertes. A motion hearing in that case is set for July 17. The trial is set to begin September 3 and is scheduled to last more than three weeks.
