They should go to jail, do not pass go, do not collect 100$, and ESPECIALLY do not collect any more children EVER again.

They treated her like property. That little girl must have been so scared

If a parent is willing to accept the consequences of prayer, they should be willing to accept all the consequences. Even the unseen ones. If people are not willing to actively resist physcial illness, then they should not resist legal action against them for the desisions that they make.

I personally think the parents need to take on responsibility for their actions (or less of), I am sure all the whilst Kara was ill she wanted help, it was only fair that little girl had a choice to live. If you believe in faith and god, then you will know he bought the parents a sign in the form of relatives begging them to seek medical attention, they should have taken note of this if that is what they believe. I feel they need to be charged and go to jail, they may have not intentionally killed this lovely little girl, but what they did do (knowingly) is refuse the help that she needed and most likely at some pont during her illness wanted. They stood back and watched her suffer and finally die. They need to go to jail to show others that this is unacceptable behavior towards a child of all people.

I think they should both be put in jail and they should definetley not be able to have anything to do with thier other children. This is crazy. How can a parent do that. They are both sick.

I believe these parents should be put away in prison for a long time. How could you not take a child to a doctor since she was 3 yrs old? religious beliefs is a phoney charge they are trying to use to get off. There other children should be taken away for good-they do not belong having children if they are this stupid. Its apparent they are more interested in fancy homes and a business then in their childs welfare. what is more important-mortage payments or your child's life?

diabetes in a child is not a easy diagnosis.when my nephew was found to have diabetes the hospital wanted to send him home but the parents made them do further tests.his glucose was over 800 he hadnt passed out that was about 18 years ago.these parents probably have been punished more than the law could ever do.they had no intent real criminals thieves con artists and murder should be prosecuted.it seems some people can go about doing corporate crime defrauding investors and marathon county does nothing.these people are allowed to have make a wish donation collections while lining there pockets.the neumans are guilty of bad judment but does it rise to a criminal level it seems to be a waste of the tax payers money.meanwhile the corporate crook im refering to will sell the marathon co court house and say he has the right to do so because he is a taxpayer in marathon co.and matathon co will probabably let him.

To Tammy the poster from Wausau who thinks the Neumanns are great people ,I pray to God you don't have chilren now or ever because people who don't put their children first like the Neumanns don't deserve them!

I am a Christian and I think it is wrong that these parents have taken the Bible out of context to fit what they believe is right. There are so many verses in the Bible that come right out and say to parents that it is your responsibility to protect your children from all harm. If they are so devout, what happened to these other versues? Were they missed? It's sad that parents are allowed to have this type of control over their helpless children. My heart goes out to their daughter, as I can't imagine the fear and pain that she must have faced, as the only people that were supposed to protect her let her die. That must have been a horrible thing for a child to attemp to comprehend. I think these people need to be made an example for everyone else out there who thinks this kind of "parenting" is ok. I hope in my heart that Madeline is with her real protector now.

i think it is very sad that they sat there and watched there child die. everyone has there own religous beliefs but you are also suppose to protect your kids. god did give us brains for a reason they should have used them. prayer does not heal every certain situation, some times you have to seek medical help so you will not die. i have 6 kids and i would never sit there and watch them die instead of getting them medical help.they deserve to get put away as long as possible. also if they get away with this then how is it fair that the person who starved her dogs gets punished and these people let there daughter die and they may not have to do no time. that is wrong.we need to have a law in place that no matter what your religous beliefs are if they are a child you must seek medical help. she was a kid and when she would of gotten older she may not have believed the same way her parents did instead the parents in my mind broke the law.

I know the Neumann's personally and they are outstanding people. I have prayed with them and read the bible with them. I have been to several christian churches and not received as much love and attention as I have with them. They believed with all their heart God would be their Ultimate Physican. I am very saddened by Madeline's death but she is rejoicing in Heaven with her King and Creator. I love the Neumanns, they are wonderful people. If we can put our faith in doctors why can't we put our faith in the Almighty God. This is something that the world doesnt embrass but the Neumann's did. God Bless the Neumanns

I believe parents have the right to their religous beliefs. There is a seperation of church and state. Where do we draw the line? I do not beleive this child was abvused, the problem here may that the child had not made her wishes known. Religouis freedom IS quarewnted by the constitution.

I BELIVE THEY SHOULD BE CHARGED. WE HAVE A FREDOM OF RELIGION BUT HAVE TO HAVE A LINE SOME WHERE. PRAYER IS TO HELP US AS HUMAN FIND THE CURAGE AND HOPE AND KNOLAGE TO HELP OTHERS HEAL. ALONG WITH GODS WORK. IF THEY CAN USE THE RIGHT TO RELIGION WHATS NEXT PEOPLE ARE ALOUD TO DO ANIMLAL OR HUMAN SACRAFICE?

Posted by: Nicole Location: North Central Wisconsin on Apr 29, 2008 at 07:40 PM
As a mother, grandmother, health care professional, and believer in religious freedom, I feel that these parents should be tried in court. To say that this was also the child's wish (see police statement)is totally irresponsible.Jesus was the first healer.Do you think he gives the medical profession knowledge thinking that we should just pray our illnesses away?Insulin was discovered in 1922,what a shame Mr.and Mrs. Newmann.

These parents are not criminals. I am sure that they had no idea that this would be the result. They have missed the fact that we have to be interdependent as a human race. God meant us to be that way. This was a gross misinterpretation of the Bible. It is getting more difficult to trust even the Church or those who say that they are Christians. Our culture is quickly losing it's ethical boundaries, values, and compassion. Their whole goal was to protect and love their child. We need to educate, counsel, give them close accountability, unconditional acceptance, and give the other children back their parents. The family needs to heal. Let's show them that there are trustworthy, loving Christians that will help them through this. Let's use our tax dollars in a positive way.

I am the mother of a daughter with type 1 diabetes, when she was diagnoised we knew nothing about the disease, but we knew something was wrong and sought medical attention within days. I don't understand how these parents could let their child get that ill and watch her die and not seek medical attention. We also pray every day that they find a cure for this disease. This was a very preventable death, what a terrible way to end a precious life. I think these parents should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!

Posted by: Vikki Location: Stevens Point on Apr 29, 2008 at 05:15 PM
I try to understand the big picture in this case but to no avail. This child believed in her parents and in my view they let her down. How can someone watch their own child fail? Maternal instinct is to protect our young, not allow them to die from a preventable disese. How sad!!!

Obviously the DA thinks she has enough ammunition to get a conviction. But people who use religion as a defense to their actions have a pretty successful historical past on appeals as it pertains to the US Constitution. Just wait until that mess in Texas gets around to the courts!!

Posted by: Rebecca Location: Merrill on Apr 29, 2008 at 10:40 AM
I think these parents should get the max time in jail for the death of that child. As parents it's our job to protect our children, watching a child die is unexceptable. I have three kids when they are sick I take them to see a doctor. I would never watch them die before doing anything. The Neumanns are sick twisted people that God will judge.

Posted by: Ronda Location: Medford on Apr 29, 2008 at 09:53 AM
Couldn't they have prayed AND sought medical attention? One doesn't void the other. Yes, the parents should be charged. People that neglect animals are charged. I'll bet many a drunk driver has prayed that they get home safely...

Posted by: Tina Location: Almond on Apr 29, 2008 at 09:16 AM
I look at my own kids and I know when they were sick I took them to the hospital. I can't believe parents can sit and watch their child die! Praying is a good thing, but they should have also realized God put people on this earth and gave them the talents to be doctors and such. Poor Kara. I guess the only good that came out of this is at least she is not suffering anymore. To think of how much she suffered, a slow death at that, is absolutely horrible.

Posted by: Amy Location: Wisconsin rapids on Apr 29, 2008 at 07:05 AM
you know this whole situation is wrong, they should have taken Kara to the doctor, but what about the lady who slept off a meth high and her baby died? Probation? Then caught in a bar and still just given probation. The Neumans other children were not harmed and were taken care of. I guess its apples to apples in my mind.

Posted by: Lisa Location: Eland on Apr 28, 2008 at 07:49 PM
For those of you that think the parents should not be charged for the death of their daughter because they have suffered enough I say you should think about the suffering that Kara endured because her parents would not have her medically treated! I hope they both get the maximum sentence allowed by law because they have not suffered enough yet!

Posted by: Dan Location: Wausau on Apr 28, 2008 at 05:40 PM
They are horrible people to let their child die. What a terrible death. They deserve what they get.

Posted by: Darlene Location: Weston on Apr 28, 2008 at 05:08 PM
yes they should be charged
