A spring storm caused more than $250,000 in damage to a small northern Wisconsin town.

According to the Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center, the lightly populated town of Bell on Lake Superior in Bayfield County was apparently one of the hardest hit by the storm Thursday night. The storms produced straight-line winds with gusts of up to 70 miles per hour, heavy rain and a tornado that was reported near Wausau. Damage was reported in at least 13 counties.

Town of Bell Chairman Bill Sloan tells The Daily Press (http://bit.ly/MG8Rzf ) the storm dropped four and a half inches of rain overall. He says there were 28 washouts on town roads and a significant portion of their gravel purchase for the year was washed away.
