UW - Stevens Point Holds Fire Fighting Classes for Students

Updated: 03/01/2008 - Some area fire fighter students are taking the action outdoors. The UW-Stevens Point fire crew and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources held their spring training class for more than 90 student fire fighters today. Michelle Stelzig a Crew Information Officer, says they brief them on what to expect, "So they don’t get to excited when they see fire and not know what to do and were kind of conditioning them, ok here’s the fire here I know what do because I have the training". Stelzig says they hope to give students the ability to stay calm and collected during a fire and today they were able to practice doing just that today while extinguishing burning piles of wood.
