Wisconsinites heading to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this summer may encounter delays and detours.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says a portion of US Highway 2 near Ironwood, Mich., will be under construction from May 27 to mid-October.
Wisconsin drivers planning to use eastbound US-2, will be detoured onto US-51 in Wisconsin to Silver Street in Hurley then to McLeod Avenue and Lake Street in Ironwood. Westbound US-2 traffic will remain on US-2 but will be restricted to one-way travel.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is reconstructing 1.3 miles of US-2 in Ironwood, from Tourist Park Road to Curry Street.
Work includes utility upgrades, sidewalks and construction of a center left-turn lane at US-2 Business Route (Douglas Boulevard). The contractor has begun improvements to the detour route, including milling and paving, pavement marking and lane assignment modifications.
Motorists and residents are reminded that all businesses in the project area will remain open during construction.
