Wisconsin to Use Part of Settlement for Budget

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin will use about $26 million of its $140 million share of a national mortgage settlement to help plug a state budget hole.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen's office made the decision in consultation with Gov. Scott Walker.

The rest of Wisconsin's share will go toward helping homeowners who were affected by foreclosure abuses between 2008 and 2011.
Walker said at a news conference Thursday that just like communities and individuals affected by the foreclosure crisis, the state has also been harmed and the payment will go toward offsetting that.

But Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in a story published Friday that none of the money should go toward the state budget.

A new projection shows the state faces a $143 million budget shortfall.

To Anonymous 1: Very good comparisons between Doyle and Walker. Doyle may not have been the best but look at what we have now. Walker is pathetic!

If milk was a money maker, I would expect a new headline. Walker takes away all milk filled baby bottles for state use.

These people are worried about their homes being foreclosed on and now added to it Walker wants his share of the pie! His grab for power and money just doesn't end! Nice.

You think Doyle was bad? Really? At least he wasn't in the headlines changing his story each day. He did not have former associates arrested by lawman. Guilt by associatation! Walker wasn't doing his job in Milwaukee if he did not know what was happening with his own staff. Best part is the law enforcement are still not done with any of the cases. Doyle didn't require a meeting and having 2 lawyers to go with him. Doyle at least came out and spoke WITH the voters, not TO them as Walker does. Doyle did not have a controled audience where no one attending could speak. Walker's auduience could only listen. I wonder where you have been? Doyle may not have been the best, but look at who Wisconsin has now! Did you watch any news? Did you read any papers? Did you listen to the radio? You couldn't have!

With all this political news in Wisconsin, where is the governor? Giving a presentation to a conservative c pac convention OUT of state. He really cares about Wisconsin as can be seen by his priorities.

I am tired, tired of Scott Walker, tired of leaders who make Wisconsin a depressing place to live. Before Scott Walker, Wisconsin was a place that respected teachers, respected public workers, respected business and we lived our lives with compassion for all. What happened? The answer is Scott Walker, we are acting like he does - with a chip on our shoulder, looking to single out groups of people and punish them. The American Dream is becoming a distant memory to many of us in Wisconsin and we cannot see a future due to the actions of this Governor. He has led many fine Republicans astray with his policies. Our standard of living continues to fall, our education system is strained and our neighborhoods are divided - how sad is this for a once great state.

If you want to see facts, look on the internet.(R) Scott McCallum used funds receive from the tobacco settlement to pay some of Tommy's deficit. So now in this state we have (R)Scott McCullum, and (R)Scott Walker using funds and then (D) Doyle using the hwy funds. No perfect but it looks like two to one so far. But that could change. The main reason is today. It should be stopped today! We can do something now which we can not do for the past. Walker needs to be removed from office. Enough is enough!
