Wisconsin Important in Presidential Election
Wisconsin is front and center in the upcoming election. Political experts say it's one of two or three states that could decide the election -- the other two being Ohio and Iowa.
A number of big-name politicians are expected to be in the state next week hoping to gain votes. Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney will be in West Allis on Monday, President Barack Obama will make a stop in Green Bay on Tuesday, and Vice-Presidential nominee Paul Ryan will be in his hometown of Janesville on Wednesday. These visits come on the heel of Vice-President Joe Biden's visit to Oshkosh on Friday, Oct. 26th.
UW-Stevens Point Political Science Professor Dennis Riley says the race is extremely close, both in the electoral college and popular vote. Riley says if Obama picks up the trio of Wisconsin, Ohio, and Iowa, he will win four more years in office. This is because he already has the support of big states like New York and California.
He says an enormous amount of money has been spent on the Presidential race and will continue until the election.
"We've never seen money like this being spent in Senate races, House races, Governor's races, and the Presidential race especially," says Riley. "It's just an unbelievable amount of money."
He expects the Presidential race to be within a percentage point and says it's so close that there may not be a winner on Tuesday night.
Spending is also through the roof in the Senate race, where former Governor Tommy Thompson is squaring off against Tammy Baldwin. It's the most expensive Senate race in state history.
