Wisconsin Democrats Head to Charlotte

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Democrats expect to be politically reinvigorated this week at their national convention in Charlotte, N.C.
First-time delegate Susan Van Sicklin, of Dodgeville, says it's been a tough year politically and she's been looking forward to the trip.

The state's 131 delegates, alternates and other officials expect to get plenty of questions about recalls and protests. Third-time delegate Rep. Mark Pocan says state Democrats are already "pretty popular" when they head out of state because of the coverage of Wisconsin's political conflict.

It's the first convention for 22-year-old Evan Giesemann. He tells the State Journal he hopes the gathering will give him the energy to come back to Wisconsin and rally the troops for November.

Wisconsin's most high-profile speaker at the convention is U.S. Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin.
