MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin Rapids man who pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $80,000 worth of items from Walmart has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison.

Robert Moran was convicted in February. The 42-year-old was accused of stealing from Walmart stores in Marshfield, Plover, Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids between 2009 and 2010.

Prosecutors say he tried to sell the stolen items using his sister's eBay account.
A Wisconsin State Journal report says the items were worth $78,443.

Moran requested a minimal sentence, but federal Judge William Conley rejected the request. Conley noted the high dollar value of the stolen goods and called Moran a "lifelong thief" with six prior convictions for theft and burglary.

A message left for Moran's public defender on the Monday holiday was not immediately returned.
