State Seeks to Keep $20K in Gambling Contraband

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state wants to keep nearly $20,000 in cash that was seized from four people in relation to alleged sports-betting operations.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice has filed complaints asking a judge to declare the money as contraband. State officials want the money transferred to the State School Fund.

No criminal charges were filed in any case. Two of the cases date back to 2005, and the other two are from 2007.

The amounts seized from each person range from about $3,800 to $6,800.

The Justice Department says the money is being held by its Division of Criminal Investigation in Madison.
