A 34-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man accused of raping a 13-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.

Anthony Fox is in custody in the Wood County Jail. He's charged with two counts of 1st degree sexual assault of a child and 2nd degree sexual assault. Investigators say the girl reported the incident happened July 12.

Investigators say the alleged victim said Fox woke her up and sexually assaulted her in the basement. The alleged victim told investigators she was afraid Fox was going to hit her.

Fox is in the Wood County jail on $10,000 signature bond and remains there on a probation hold.

He'll return to court September 19.
