MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A state appeals court says Winnebago County's judges can bar prosecutors from carrying concealed weapons in courtrooms.

The judges have banned everyone except police from carrying in court without permission. District Attorney Christian Gossett and his deputy, Scott Ceman, contend the order conflicts with state statutes that allow prosecutors go armed if they have permits.

The state Supreme Court refused to hear the prosecutors' arguments in June. Gossett and Ceman took their case the 2nd Distsrict Court of Appeals in July.

That court found Friday that only the Supreme Court has jurisdiction over the county's chief judge. But the court ruled the other judges can control their own courtrooms.

The prosecutors' attorney, John Monroe, didn't immediately return email and telephone messages.
