Winter Brings Frost and Frozen Pipes, Beware

Check Your Pipes in Cold Weather

Cold Weather Could Freeze Septic Systems

Lack of snow cover, dry conditions, and very cold air temperatures all add up for on disastrous mess. Frozen pipes and septic systems cause headaches every year during the winter.

Water Treatment supervisors recommend checking all pipes. You also need to make sure no cold air is getting inside your home through an open door or broken window.

Dick Boers, Drinking Water Superintendent for Wausau Water Works said, “keep some heat and air circulating in your basement. Our water pipes are about 6 feet underground so they have insulation. But the rest of the wire needs to be thoroughly checked.”

If you happen to find that a pipe has burst and is leaking water, your first call should be to Wausau’s Water department, and next a plumber. Water treatment professionals advise everyone to check pipes in outside walls, under sinks, and in unheated spaces.
