The City Board in Owen has approved the resignation of Police Chief Randall Poirier during a special common council meeting Thursday evening. Chief Poirier accepted and signed the resignation documents on November 6.
The chief has been on leave for more than two weeks, and no one has said why.
According to a news release from Mayor Stephen Heggemeier, the City of Owen, in conjunction with outside investigators, conducted a thorough investigation of alleged off-duty misconduct said to have occurred in early September 2012.
That investigation did not produce any significant evidence of misconduct related to Chief Poirier’s employment with the City of Owen, and Chief Poirier cooperated fully throughout the investigation.
Following the completion of the investigation, Chief Poirier agreed his resignation was in the best interest of himself, his family, and the entire Owen community.
According to their most recent budget, Owen's Police Department has one Sergeant and one Officer, in addition to the Chief.
