A 26-year-old Wausau woman accused of stealing mail from mailboxes has pleaded not guilty.

Ger Moua is charged with two counts of forgery, mail fraud, two counts of credit card fraud, and two counts of obstructing an officer. The alleged crimes occurred Dec. 30, 2013 to Jan. 17, 2014.

Court documents say Moua and her boyfriend, Lao Vang, 28, would take items from mailboxes and would use what was stolen to get money or order other items.

According to the criminal complaint, in one case the suspects are accused of stealing two payable checks in outgoing mail. Investigators believe the suspects washed the ink from the checks using acetone, then attempted to write them out for different amounts to a different company.

The alleged victim in that case said she was contacted by Littelton Coin Company in New Hampshire stating she owed $75 for an ordered she had placed. The billing account was the woman's, however the shipping address was Ger Moua's.

Lieutenant William Kolb of the Wausau Police Department says in the 20 years he's been working at the Department, he's never seen a fraud case of this magnitude. He says the losses are in the range of tens of thousands of dollars and that's just in what they were able to recover from the shreddings they found in the suspects' residence.

Lt. Kolb says none of the victims appear to have anything in common. He says the suspects were taking mail out of random mailboxes; using what they could, and would shred what they couldn't.

Investigators believe there may have been up to 40 victims.

Vang, 28, is expected to head to trial in the case in September.
