Wausau Woman Claims $1 Million Powerball Lottery Prize

Posted: Thu 9:41 PM, Dec 27, 2012

Kathryn McGowan of Wausau says she's been playing the lottery for 10 or 15 years and has won a dollar here and there.

On December 19, she matched all the numbers but the Powerball itself, for $1 million. That comes to $670,000 after taxes.

The retired business owner doesn't want to go on camera, but she spoke with NewsChannel 7 on the phone Thursday night.

Kathryn says she used a combination of family birthdays to come up with the numbers.

She says she's not too disappointed not to hit the Powerball number to claim the full prize, most of it would have been taken in taxes anyway.

Kathryn says she'll use the money she did win to take a trip to a warmer place.

The ticket was bought at The Store on Rib Mountain Rd. It will get a $20,000 commission from the state lottery.
