You may have noticed the big block of snow on Wausau's 400 Block, but it won't look like that for long.Team USA snow sculptors are busy chipping away to turn it into a sleigh complete with a slide.
The sculpture will also act a billboard for Winter Fest.
The sculptors say it is the 24th year the team has been Wausau.
But despite the temperatures lately, the men say it is not the coldest place they've ever worked; noting a trip to the Arctic Circle were temperatures were about -40.
On average, these guys finish a work of art like this in about three days.
"This is close to our 200th major snow sculpture. A block of snow like this is 20 feet long by 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide and weighs about 30 tons,” Explains Tom Queoff.
The men say they hope to be done by Wednesday.
Winter Fest is held from 10am to 2pm Saturday, Feb. 8 throughout downtown Wausau. Activities include a mac and cheese contest amongst five local restaurants, a snow sculpture, ice skating, horse-drawn wagon rides, art projects for the kids, Ice Tee Classic to benefit the Neighbor's Place and more!
