A 19- year-old Wausau man is now charged with first degree child sexual assault stemming from a series of alleged encounters that began in 2008.

Tommie Rothenberger made his initial appearance in Marathon County Thursday.

The judge said he can't have any contact will children unless he's supervised by someone older than 25.

An investigation into the case began in 2010. Rothenberger admitted to touching the then 4-year-old child inappropriately, but said it was an accident.

However, the alleged victim says it happened more than once.

NewsChannel 7 placed a call to District Attorney's office to get a clearer understanding of why the investigation has taken so long. They declined to comment.

Rothenberger is free on a $5,000 signature bond and no future court activity has been scheduled.
