The controversial gay pride parade in Wausau has been canceled.
The City Clerk's office received a letter from the event organizer saying that the parade would not be taking place.
The planned event has faced backlash from both straight and gay members of the community who felt it would not portray LGBT individuals in the best light.
The negative publicity is one of the reasons why the parade was canceled.
"To sum it up there was just too much negativity and confusion about the parade." said organizer Daxx Bouvier
An equality march that was scheduled for Saturday is still expected to take place.
It will begin at Marathon Park at 3 pm.
