A family has been displaced after a fire Tuesday morning near Wausau's downtown.

Lieutenant Jeremy Kopp with the Wausau Fire Department said the fire was contained to the kitchen. However, the rest of the single family home did have smoke damage. The home is located on the 700 block of Washington Street.

Lt. Kopp said the department delivered a smoke detector to the home just a few months ago when they teamed up with Politio's Pizza for fire prevention.

A dog was rescued from the home but did not need oxygen or any medical care.
