After 10 years of planning, the Wausau Curling Facility is nearly complete. All that's left are a few finishing touches.
Now, the Wausau Curling Club wants to show their hard work, in what is possibly the best curling facility in the country.
It’s been quite the project building a 40,000 square foot curling facility right here in Wausau. Much to the delight of those in charge of the project, it’s finally wrapping up.
The Wausau Curling Center has been under construction for almost a year. The facility houses eight Olympic size slabs of ice in a 20,000 square foot temperature controlled building.
The project cost 4.3 million dollars and has been a vision the club has had for nearly a decade. The club has already been using the ice, and wants to invite the public to come out and give it a try.
Perry Grueber, Publicist for the Wausau Curling Club says the ice has already been a success. "Work is almost completed. The ice field is complete and play has begun. Our leagues are busy and full. We’ll finish our curling facility in April, which is about a month later which is a great benefit of owning our own club."
Prior to the newly constructed facility, the club had to follow certain guidelines, and time slots for which they could operate at Marathon Park. This new facility will allow them to stay open longer, which means more curlers throughout the season.
The new center has already nearly doubled the Wausau Curling Club's membership-- with more than 400 curlers taking part each week.
The club will be hosting a first rock throw and building dedication ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. The public is invited to attend.
