The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department has released the name of a 24-year-old man who was killed Tuesday afternoon as result of a traffic accident.

The accident ended a chase with authorities that began in Marathon County.

According to the news release, the driver, Justin Eichelt, of Lublin, lost control of his vehicle on County Highway W and was ejected. Eichelt died of his injuries.

A female passenger and a three week old baby were transported to a Merrill hospital. Their condition are unknown.

The Lincoln County Sheriff Jeff Jaeger tells NewsChannel 7 one person has died following a two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon south of Merrill.

According to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol the case began as a kidnapping investigation. The State Patrol said a search began for a 24-year-old man who had taken his 3-week-old child. The news release said the child was in need of medical care.

Officers from DCI located the vehicle near Center Road on County Highway W in Lincoln County. The man lost control and died at the scene.

The infant and an 18-year-old woman were injured.

The Department of Criminal investigation is on scene a two-vehicle crash on County Road W south of Highway 64 near Merrill.

A Lieutenant from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department said the one vehicle ended up in the ditch; inside were three people including an infant. The baby and one adult were transported to a Merrill hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

There was at least one person in the other vehicle. There was no update as to their condition.

The Lt. said the chase began around 4:20 p.m. In Wausau.

According to dispatch reports, the chase may have been linked to a kidnapping. The Lt. said the incident has been contained. There is no manhunt and no missing children.

A spokesperson from DCI is expected to make a statement later Tuesday night.

Multiple agencies have responded to Lincoln county where an apparent chase ended in some sort of accident.

According to dispatch reports, it began around 4:20 p.m. on Sixth Street in Wausau and led out the city heading heading north. A portion of County Road W was closed. It is unknown if that road has now reopened.

Our reporter at the scene saw she saw an ambulance at the crash site.

We are hoping to get more information confirmed and will bring you the latest as it becomes available.
