A final vote on the proposed sand mine north of Manawa has stalled and it could be months before the matter is voted on again.

According to WLUK-TV, the controversial project was put off by the county’s planning and zoning committee.

The company behind the project, A.F. Gelhar just needed the go ahead from the Waupaca County committee. But multiple concerns were raised at Thursday’s meeting, five committee members decided to send the matter back to the Town of Union.

The mine promises to bring millions of dollars and more than 30 jobs into Waupaca County. It would go on 160 acres of land in the town of Union and mainly supply the Waupaca Foundry.

Those against the mine said it could threaten the environment.
