A new breed of Walmart stores are popping up across the county, and they're significantly small that what you might imagine. The world's largest retailer is learning bigger is not always better and it's modifying its business plan to compete with evolving consumer spending habits.
Walmart Superstore are about 200,000 square feet. The new Walmarts Express stores are only 10,000 to 40,000 square feet and resemble convenience stores.
According to Walmart’s website, the Walmart Express stores were created for urban and rural areas that lack access to larger stores. Three Walmart Express have been open for about three years in the company's home state of Arkansas. Now, plans are underway in other parts of the county including Oklahoma, Kansas, North Carolina and Texas.
So far, Walmart Express stores have not popped up in Wisconsin.
