If you live in the village of Weston you will soon be seeing an increase in the bills you pay four times a year.
On Monday night, the village board voted to add an additional transportation utility bill to resident's utility payments. That fee will go to pay for the bus service throughout the village. That service was voted in favor of by residents, but they then voted they didn’t want to pay for the service.
If you live in Weston, chances are you will soon be paying more in the coming years. That’s because the village is tacking on an additional two fees to the annual utility payments residents are required to pay four times a year. That means that property owners who have more than 400 feet of land in front of their homes will now pay an additional $29.20 a year. Most home owners have less than that and that will leave them paying an additional $9.20 a year.
That cost may not seem like a huge jump, but it's just one of two that will be tacked on to the annual utility payments. The second charge is called the Public Fire Protection charge.
That goes to pay for maintaining proper pressure and volume of water in homes. It also goes to ensure hydrants are maintained in case of fires or other disasters. That bill had originally been paid for by the village, but a lack of funds has left Weston no choice but to have residents pay the bill.
That second fee will add a quarterly charge of $17.49 to each home with a normal sized meter. That breaks down to a daily charge of 19 cents a day.
Property owners who do not receive a storm water utility bill from the village, will not receive a transportation utility bill.
The increase in utility payments can be expected on your next utility payment this year.
