Some unregistered voters were mistakenly turned away Friday. The deadline to pre-register and vote was Friday, but the City Clerk believed the deadline to register had already passed. The Clerk was allowing those who were registered to vote, but turning away those who had yet to register. The Clerk tells us about 8 early voters were mistakenly turned away.

The Government Accountability Board tells NewsChannel 7 they received a call from an upset Schofield man, after he was told it was too late for him to register to vote at City Hall.

The GAB called the Schofield Clerk and explained voters could still register and vote until 5pm on Friday. Thursday's deadline was for those who wanted to apply for an absentee ballot to be mailed to them.

The Clerk tells us she was threatened by one of the people she turned away. The Everest Metro Police Department says they had to send an officer to City Hall after the confrontation between the Clerk and the man.

The City Clerk says it was a misunderstanding and she feels terrible for the mistake. She says she certainly encourages those who were turned away to vote on Tuesday.

The absentee voting rules for the State can be found at the Government Accountability Board's Website
