The Executive Chef at UW Stevens Point could soon be named one of the top university chefs in the nation. Chef Angel Alcantar is headed to Michigan this weekend to compete in the National Association of College and University Food Service's 2014 Culinary Challenge.
The competition gives college chefs an ingredient and they must prepare a full meal using the item within a one hour time span. This year's ingredient is lobster. Chef Alcantar will prepare a gazpacho, lobster jicama salad, and lobster corn fritters.
Throughout the week the chef has been practicing for the competition and has even been having students sample his work. While the challenge will be tough, its something he is excited to do.
"There is some anxiety going on. We have eight other individuals that are competing from Division 1 schools to private colleges. It is about putting your best foot forward." Chef Alcantar says.
Chef Alcantar is the only Wisconsin chef that will be cooking at the competition. The results will be announced next week.
