MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents will meet to discuss how to provide better services to student veterans.

The UW System says it's seeing "significant increases" in the number of student veterans. Some have earned college credits during their military service, and they've gained leadership experience that could be valuable to future employers.

The regents plan to discuss Thursday how to serve those students better. That could include helping them understand the benefits to which they're entitled, and helping them readjust to a civilian environment.

The regents will also hear from experts who'll talk about so-called "skills gaps." That's when there's a disconnect between the skills that graduates learn and the skills that employers are seeking.

The meeting will be webcast on the UW System website.
