The Oneida County Sheriff's Department says a 27-year-old man was attempting to flee police when he lost control of his car and was killed in a crash.

According to a press release, around 8:30 p.m. Monday, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Sean E. O'Corrain on Davenport Street in Rhinelander for speeding. Police say the driver continued to the intersection of Highway K and Forest Loop Road where the vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in the ditch area.

Authorities say O'Corrain was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Oneida County Medical Examiner's Office are continuing their investigation into the events surrounding the vehicle crash.
