The Portage County Sheriff's Department is releasing more information about an accident that closed County Highway Y for the majority of the day.
Dispatch received a call around 9:45 a.m. reporting an overturned truck on Highway Y south of Sharonwood Lane outside of Stevens Point in the Town of Hull. The truck blocked both lanes of traffic and was carrying hazardous materials. Several acid containers had been thrown from the crash, but none were compromised.
Investigators say one container of iodine was leaking and was later cleaned up by an environmental contractor.
No one was hurt in the crash, and no residents were endangered by any of the chemicals.
Responding to the call were deputies from the sheriff’s office, Town of Hull Fire and EMS units, and responders from Portage County’s Hazardous Materials Team, Ambulance Service, Traffic Incident Management Team, and highway department
The road remained closed until 6:30 p.m.
