Three kayakers, including two nine-year-old boys have been found safe after missing nearly 12 hours overnight.
According to WLUK-TV, the Door County Sheriff’s Department says it received a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. Thursday from a kayak rental company reporting the kayakers as missing.
Two kayaks were located at 6:17 a.m. Friday by a search crew in a C-130 Coast Guard aircraft near Whaleback Shoal, a reef in Michigan waters. Investigators say that is about 14 miles from where they put their kayaks in the water at Nicolet Bay Boat Launch at Peninsula State Park Thursday afternoon. A helicopter lifted the kayakers out of the water, and all three were flown to the hospital.
Officials say two of the kayakers showed signs of hypothermia. The other was fine.
Search crews say if they had more daylight Thursday, they hopefully would have found them sooner.
