Highway 54 is looking much cleaner than it did a week ago.
NewsChannel 7 recently reported that litter had been strewn around on the road. Now, it's in better condition.
The Department of Transportation says it figured out where the litter came from. It turns out, a refuse hauler from DeBoer Contractors that uses the highway to transfer garbage between communities was trailing garbage.
After being contacted by the DOT, the hauler agreed to pick it all up.
Clean-up continues on Friday in Portage and Wood counties.
The hauler will take steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.
