No matter how you plan to cook that Thanksgiving turkey this year you need to be careful - but if you're planning on using a turkey deep fryer you need to take some extra steps to protect yourself, your family, and your home.
The Wausau Fire Department showed me what can happen if you're not careful with that deep fryer. What they did, was put the fryer right next to the house. As it got hotter - flames started to shoot out of it. Then in a matter of seconds the house started on fire. You can see the demonstration by watching the video above.
Lieutenant Michael Tulissari gave us some tips to make sure that doesn't happen to you on Thanksgiving. Most importantly, keep that deep fryer away from your house and out of your garage. If something happens, call 911 right away. You can also try and put the fire out by grabbing a tin garbage can and placing it over the top. Then, try and shut the gas off. Also, make sure you properly thaw out your turkey before you put it in the deep fryer. For more tips, watch the video above.
