UPDATE: Peanut Butter Recall Expands Including Major Retailers

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Some of the country's largest grocery stores are pulling some of their store-brand products off their shelves, because of a recall of peanut butter and other nut products.

A New Mexico company, Sunland Inc., is expanding its recall of peanut butter and almond butter. The recall now includes cashew butters, tahini and blanched and roasted peanut products.

The company sells its nuts and nut butters to large groceries and other food distributors around the country. Last month, it recalled products under multiple brand names after salmonella illnesses were linked to one of the brands it manufactures -- Trader Joe's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter.

The recall includes some nut butters and nut products sold at Whole Foods Market, Target, Safeway, Fresh & Easy, Giant Food, Harry and David and several other stores.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 30 salmonella illnesses in 19 states can be traced to the Trader Joe's peanut butter. It says the people who were sickened reported becoming ill between June 11th and September 11th. Almost two thirds were children under 10. No deaths were reported.
