The Town of Rome clerk is expected to reach a plea in March following accusations she used the Police Department utility account to pay the propane bill for her home.

Deena Griffin, 53, is charged with theft, forgery, and misconduct in public office.

During the investigation Terri Anderson will be handling the role of Town Clerk.

Griffin has held the position of Town Clerk more than three years.

A plea and sentencing hearing has been scheduled for March 19.

Griffin is currently free on a $5,000 signature bond.

The Town of Rome clerk has now been charged with theft, forgery, and misconduct in public office.

According to court documents, Deena Griffin, 53, paid her $610 propane bill with the Police Department utility account. The payment drew suspicion because the department has natural gas service.

The charges against Griffin were filed October 31 in Adams County. Online court records list the offense date as Sept. 1.

Griffin is currently free on a $5,000 signature bond.

During the investigation Terri Anderson will be handling the role of Town Clerk.

The Adams County Sheriff's Department said in a news release they are recommending Deena Griffin, the Town of Rome Clerk, be charged with theft, forgery, and misconduct in public office.

The 53-year-old remains behind bars in the Adams County Jail.

The charges requested stem from an investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office.

No other details are being released at this time.
